About Music
What is this subject about?
Music 1 provides students with the opportunity to build their knowledge, skills, understanding and attitudes in a broad musical context. It also gives students opportunities to learn about a vast range of musical genres, including contemporary music styles.
Subject Topics
Students can choose from a list of 21 different topics covering all aspects of music over the last millennium.
Particular Course Requirements - HSC course
In addition to core studies in performance, composition, musicology and aural, students select three electives from any combination of performance, composition and musicology. These electives must represent each of the three topics studied in the course. Students selecting Composition electives will be required to submit a score and recording of their finished piece. They must also develop a composition portfolio as a record of their compositional process. The portfolio may be requested by the NSW Education Standards Authority to validate authorship of the submitted work.
Extra
The Year 11 and 12 classes travel to Sydney to attend a concert at the Opera House which showcases the best of the HSC performance and compositions.
Year 12 participates in a weekend recording session, gaining valuable experience with industry-standard equipment and software.
